Davido roasts Bashir Ahmad in fiery X banter over Osun politics

Afrobeats star Davido has traded words with former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad on X after the two clashed over the political fortunes of the singer’s uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The exchange began after Davido reacted enthusiastically to President Bola Tinubu’s directive for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to lift its restriction on an Osun State Government account.

The singer described the development as “HISTORY”, apparently referring to the President’s intervention ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election, in which Adeleke is seeking a second term.

Ahmad, however, appeared unimpressed by Davido’s excitement.

He responded by questioning whether the singer would still be able to describe the unfolding events as “history” after the election, effectively challenging Adeleke’s chances of retaining his seat.

Davido fired back by turning the spotlight on Ahmad’s own political record, reminding him that he secured only 15 votes during his party’s primary election.

Ahmad did not let the jab pass.

He countered by asking the singer how many Grammy Awards he had won.

That prompted Davido’s supporters to defend their favourite, pointing out that the singer had been among the final five nominees in his Grammy categories from thousands of submitted entries.

But Davido eventually returned to the exchange himself—and delivered his most pointed response.

“You measure success by one award. I measure it by sold-out arenas, billions of streams, global influence, and people singing my songs across continents.

“You had government backing and still couldn’t convince enough people to back you in your small constituency..

“You’re a small boy who came into politics by accident.. You spent 8yrs with the ex president and couldn’t make a change in your poverty stricken community..

“We all have different trophies Bashir, I’ll keep inspiring the young ones and generations to come while you wait for the next government job to get crumbs.”

The exchange quickly moved beyond a disagreement over the Osun election, becoming a broader argument about political influence, personal achievement and the meaning of success.

Davido framed his record through music, pointing to sold-out concerts, streaming numbers and international reach, while Ahmad’s challenge centred on the singer’s lack of a Grammy win.

The dispute also reflects the increasingly blurred line between Nigeria’s entertainment and political spheres, particularly around Adeleke, whose family has become one of the country’s most prominent political-entertainment dynasties.

With the Osun election approaching, Davido’s latest intervention makes clear that he is not merely watching his uncle’s campaign from the sidelines—and he appears more than willing to take on critics online.
