“Cheating on a man who doesn’t provide is self-defense” – Ugandan socialite
Reality TV personality and businesswoman Zari The Boss Lady has sparked conversation with a blunt take on financial responsibility in relationships, arguing that love and loyalty become difficult to sustain when a partner is left struggling to meet basic needs.
Speaking during a TikTok live session, Zari addressed relationships in which a man asks his partner to quit her job or business but then fails to provide adequately for her.
According to the Ugandan-born socialite, such arrangements can leave women financially vulnerable—especially when they have surrendered their independent source of income at a partner’s request.
Zari argued that if a man wants his partner to stop working, he should also be prepared to take full financial responsibility for the lifestyle and needs that follow.
Her position became particularly provocative when she discussed what happens if another person offers the emotional or financial support missing from the relationship.
“Cheating on a man who doesn’t do anything for you is self-defense.”
The statement has since drawn attention because of its deliberately provocative framing of infidelity as a response to financial neglect.
Zari’s broader argument, however, was centred on financial independence and responsibility.
She suggested that a woman should not be expected to give up her ability to earn money merely because her partner prefers her not to work, only to be left without adequate support afterwards.
In her view, asking a partner to abandon her livelihood creates an obligation for the person making that request to ensure she does not become financially stranded.
Her comments have reignited a familiar debate around relationships in which one partner controls or influences the other’s access to employment and income—and whether financial dependence can create an unhealthy imbalance of power.
While Zari’s “self-defense” remark is likely to generate the most debate, the underlying message was straightforward: if a man wants a woman to depend on him financially, he should be prepared to provide—not simply demand dependence.
