Super Falcons of Nigeria report cash theft at team hotel in Morocco ahead of WAFCON campaign
According to reports, forward Esther Okoronkwo suffered the biggest loss, with $700 said to have been stolen. Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade reportedly lost $200, while defender Osinachi Ohale was allegedly deprived of $100.
Midfielder Joy Omewa is also reported to have lost $120, with teammate Halimatu Ayinde said to have had $100 stolen.
The combined amount allegedly taken from the players totals $1,220, estimated at approximately ₦1.7 million.
The circumstances surrounding the reported theft remain unclear, and it is not yet known whether any suspects have been identified.
As of the time of publication, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has not issued an official statement on the incident or confirmed whether a formal investigation has been launched.
Despite the reported setback, the Super Falcons remain focused on their preparations in Casablanca under head coach Justine Madugu before travelling to Rabat for their opening Group C match against Malawi.
Nigeria, the defending WAFCON champions, will also face Zambia and Egypt during the group stage as they begin their quest to retain the continental title.
