FG renames Lagos-Calabar coastal highway after Tinubu
The Federal Government has officially renamed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway in honour of President Bola Tinubu, citing his role in conceiving and driving the landmark infrastructure project.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced the decision on Thursday while briefing journalists in Abuja on the progress of ongoing federal road projects and newly approved infrastructure initiatives.
According to Umahi, the decision was taken in consultation with the leadership and staff of the Federal Ministry of Works in recognition of Tinubu's vision for the project, which he said dates back to his tenure as governor of Lagos State nearly three decades ago.
"By the powers conferred on me as the Minister of Works, in consultation with the Permanent Secretary, the Minister of State, directors and staff of the ministry, we have decided to name the entire coastal highway after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because of his vision and commitment to the project," Umahi said.
The minister said Tinubu conceived the coastal highway project about 27 years ago and has now overseen its implementation as President.
"It's one thing to dream and another thing to have the grace of God to actualise that dream," Umahi added.
The 750-kilometre highway is one of the Federal Government's flagship infrastructure projects, designed to connect Lagos with Cross River State through several coastal states, improve regional connectivity, stimulate economic growth and boost trade and tourism.
Umahi also disclosed that President Tinubu had approved additional road projects covering about 800 kilometres, including an extension of the Fourth Legacy Road Project and the dualisation of sections of the East-West Road, as part of the administration's efforts to expand the country's transport infrastructure.
