Driver deliberately crashed bus leading to the death of passenger

Nigeria: A commercial bus driver employed by Abia City Mass Transit has been arrested after allegedly causing a fatal crash that claimed the life of a passenger during a journey from Onitsha to Lagos.

The suspect, identified as Ifeanyi Okwuaja, is accused of intentionally steering the bus into a stationary truck following a heated altercation with a passenger seated in the front beside him.

According to eyewitness accounts, the disagreement began earlier in the trip and reportedly intensified, with the driver allegedly threatening the passenger during the exchange. Witnesses further alleged that when the bus later approached a parked truck, Okwuaja veered the vehicle toward the side where the passenger was seated.

The collision reportedly killed the passenger instantly, while several other occupants of the bus sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Following the crash, the driver allegedly fled the scene and returned to his hometown in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State. He was later tracked down and arrested by police officers working in collaboration with officials of Abia City Mass Transit.

Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. As of the latest available reports, police have not publicly announced any formal charges against the suspect, and the allegations remain under investigation.
