46 countries Nigerian passport holders can travel to without visa in 2026
Nigerian passport holders can travel to approximately 46 destinations in 2026 without obtaining a traditional visa before departure, according to the latest travel advisory for Nigerian travellers.
The destinations offer various entry options, including visa-free access, visas on arrival and electronic visas (eVisas), making travel easier for eligible Nigerian citizens.
The countries are spread across West Africa, other parts of Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, the Middle East and Oceania.
ECOWAS countries remain most accessible
West Africa continues to offer the easiest travel access for Nigerians under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Free Movement Protocol.
Under the arrangement, Nigerians can travel visa-free to Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo for stays of up to 90 days.
Cape Verde also grants visas on arrival to ECOWAS citizens, while Cameroon, Mauritius, Rwanda and Seychelles provide relatively easy entry options for Nigerian travellers.
Caribbean, Asia and Oceania destinations
Several Caribbean nations also allow Nigerians to enter without obtaining a visa in advance. These include Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Haiti, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago.
In Asia and the Middle East, the Maldives offers visa-free entry, while Nepal, Cambodia and Timor-Leste issue visas on arrival. Bahrain allows eligible Nigerians to apply through its eVisa system.
In Oceania, Nigerians can also travel to Fiji, Kiribati, Micronesia, Samoa and Vanuatu without securing a traditional visa before departure.
Countries offering eVisa and visa on arrival
Several African and South American countries have also adopted eVisa or visa-on-arrival systems for Nigerian travellers. They include Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Mozambique, Suriname and Bolivia.
Kenya currently operates an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) system, allowing travellers to obtain approval online before arrival.
Popular destinations still require visas
Despite the expanded travel options, Nigerians are still required to obtain visas before travelling to several major destinations, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, France, Germany, the United Arab Emirates and most countries within the Schengen Area.
Implications for travellers
The availability of visa-free, visa-on-arrival and eVisa destinations is expected to reduce travel costs and simplify trip planning for many Nigerians.
While ECOWAS countries remain the easiest destinations to access for business and leisure travel, the Caribbean and Oceania are increasingly becoming attractive alternatives. However, strict visa requirements in many Western and Gulf countries continue to pose significant challenges for Nigerian travellers.
