19 countries outside Africa Nigerians can visit without a visa in 2026

Nigerian passport holders can travel to 19 destinations outside Africa without completing a traditional visa application before departure, according to the 2026 Henley Passport Index.

The latest ranking shows that Nigerians are eligible for either visa-free entry or visa on arrival in selected countries across the Caribbean, Asia and Oceania, offering greater travel flexibility despite the country's relatively low global passport ranking.

Oceania tops the list

Oceania accounts for the largest number of destinations accessible to Nigerian travellers, with nine countries and territories allowing entry without a pre-arranged visa.

They include:

Kiribati

Micronesia

Niue* (Visa on arrival)

Palau* (Visa on arrival)

Samoa* (Visa on arrival)

Tuvalu

Vanuatu

The region remains an attractive option for travellers seeking island destinations known for eco-tourism, beaches and cultural experiences.

Five Caribbean destinations

The Caribbean contributes five destinations where Nigerian passport holders can enter without applying for a visa before travelling.

They are:

Barbados

Dominica

Haiti

Montserrat

St. Kitts and Nevis

These islands are popular for tourism and offer varying lengths of permitted stay, subject to each country's immigration regulations.

Asian countries on the list

Five Asian destinations also feature on the Henley Index for Nigerian passport holders.

They include:

Iran* (Visa on arrival)

Lebanon

Maldives* (Visa on arrival)

Timor-Leste* (Visa on arrival)

For countries offering visas on arrival, travellers complete immigration formalities upon landing instead of obtaining a visa before departure.

Visa-free and visa-on-arrival options

Of the 19 destinations, seven operate visa-on-arrival systems for Nigerian citizens:

Maldives

Timor-Leste

Niue

Palau

Samoa

The remaining destinations permit visa-free entry, although visitors must still satisfy immigration requirements, which may include presenting a valid passport, proof of onward or return travel, accommodation details and evidence of sufficient funds.

The latest travel options come as global visa policies continue to evolve. While Nigerian travellers now have access to a number of destinations without undergoing lengthy visa application procedures, stricter immigration rules recently announced by the United States for international students, exchange visitors and foreign journalists highlight the changing landscape of international travel.
