Prostitution is not a criminal offense in Cyprus

Prostitution itself is not a criminal offense in the Republic of Cyprus, but the industry operates in a strict legal gray area.

Adults are legally permitted to engage in paid sex, but the state does not officially recognize or regulate it as a profession.

Because the sector is unregulated, several related activities are illegal:
  • Pimping and Procuring: Living off the earnings of a sex worker is a criminal offense.
  • Brothels: Operating, managing, or maintaining a brothel is strictly prohibited by the Cyprus Criminal Code.
For official legislation and policies, you can review the Cyprus Police guidelines or read the European Parliament's Comparative Analysis on Prostitution in the EU for a broader look at how Cyprus's "unregulated abolitionist" model compares to other European countries.
