Donald Trump rejects pardon for Sean Diddy
Donald Trump rejects Sean “Diddy” Combs’ request for a presidential
pardon, saying he has no plans to grant clemency to the hip-hop mogul.
Combs, who is serving a four-year prison sentence for prostitution-related convictions, reportedly sent Trump a letter seeking a pardon.
The 56-year-old was convicted last July on two counts of transporting people across state lines for prostitution but was acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
In an interview with The New York Times published Thursday, Trump also said he does not plan to issue pardons to several other high-profile figures, including deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, disgraced crypto tycoon Sam Bankman-Fried, and former Democratic senator Robert Menendez.
Asked about Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd, Trump said he had not been asked about a pardon.
Trump has previously issued high-profile clemency, including pardons for over 1,500 individuals involved in the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack and Honduran ex-president Juan Orlando Hernandez, who had been serving a 45-year sentence for drug trafficking.
The comments highlight Trump’s selective approach to pardons, favoring loyalists and politically connected figures while denying requests from prominent celebrities and other controversial figures.
