The following are some of the major notable events that occurred on December 1 throughout history:

1640 – Portugal restores independence from Spain
A nationalist uprising in Lisbon deposed the Spanish vicereine and proclaimed John IV of Portugal king, ending the Iberian Union and launching the Portuguese Restoration War.

1913 – First moving automobile assembly line introduced by Henry Ford
