Man physically assault his wife for refusing him sex in north Cyprus
The man identified as C.K., was arrested on charges of seriously assaulting his wife, stemming from an incident that allegedly occurred in Gönyeli,in the early hours of 25 December 2025.
He was brought before the court on Monday December 29.
According to police, the incident took place at around 4:00 a.m. at the couple’s residence in Gönyeli. It was alleged that the suspect seriously assaulted his wife after she refused to engage in sexual intercourse with him. The complaint was filed on 26 December, and the suspect was arrested later that same day.
Police told the court that during questioning, C.K. denied assaulting his wife, claiming instead that he had bitten her on the cheek as a way of expressing affection. Authorities further stated that there had been previous incidents of violence against the complainant; however, no investigation had been initiated at the time due to the victim’s refusal to provide a statement.
The court also heard that the suspect has a prior criminal record. In 2021, a case file was prepared against him in connection with offences including fighting, causing disturbance, and inappropriate behavior, and the case had proceeded to trial.
Noting that the investigation into the current matter had been completed, police requested that the court impose appropriate bail conditions.
After evaluating the testimony, the judge ordered the suspect’s release on bail under the following conditions: payment of a 20,000 TL cash bond, the signing of an 800,000 TL surety bond by a guarantor, and a prohibition on leaving the country.
The suspect continues to deny the allegations, maintaining that he did not assault his wife and that his actions were misunderstood, stating, “I did not beat my wife. I bit her cheek to show my affection.”
