High-level meeting held to discuss the future of higher education in North Cyprus
A high-level meeting focusing on the future of higher education, challenges faced by universities, and proposed legislative updates was held under the chairmanship of Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu.
The meeting, hosted at the Ministry of National Education, brought together the President of the Higher Education Planning, Supervision, Accreditation and Coordination Council (YÖDAK), Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın, members of YÖDAK, Director of the Higher Education and Foreign Relations Department Behçet Çelebi, and higher education inspectors.
During the meeting, participants held in-depth discussions on the current state and future direction of higher education, addressing the challenges universities face and exploring potential solutions. Views were also exchanged on the need to update certain legislative frameworks governing higher education in order to better respond to evolving academic and institutional needs.
Minister Çavuşoğlu expressed his appreciation for the work carried out by YÖDAK under its renewed structure. Emphasizing the importance of strong cooperation between the Ministry and YÖDAK, he stated that the Ministry would continue to support initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality, academic standards, and international visibility of higher education institutions.
YÖDAK President Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın highlighted the significance of coordinated efforts, noting that achieving effective and sustainable outcomes depends on close cooperation and ongoing consultation with the Ministry. He underlined that collaborative governance remains the most effective approach to strengthening the higher education sector
