Gynecologist arrested in north Cyprus on sexual assault allegation

A well-known gynecologist working in Famagusta, identified as Dr. M.B., has been brought before the Famagusta District Court on charges of sexual assault involving a nurse employed at the same clinic.

While the prosecution emphasized the seriousness of the case, the court ruled that the suspect be released on bail pending the completion of judicial proceedings.

Dr. M.B. appeared in court on 12 December after being formally charged in connection with an alleged incident said to have occurred on 10 December at a maternity clinic in Famagusta where he has reportedly worked for many years and is publicly recognized.

According to the allegations, a 26-year-old nurse employed at the clinic claimed that she was subjected to non-consensual physical contact amounting to sexual assault during working hours. It was alleged that the incident took place in Dr. M.B.’s examination room after he asked the nurse to apply cream to his legs, citing pain.

Following the incident, the nurse reportedly informed the relevant authorities, prompting an investigation. As part of the inquiry, Dr. M.B. was identified as the suspect and brought before the court on Friday, 12 December.

The prosecution stated that the investigation had been completed and underlined the gravity of the charges. After considering the submissions, the court ordered that Dr. M.B. be released on bail until the trial process is concluded.
