Nigerian woman found dead in Cyprus apartment: Police investigate suspicious death
Greek Cypriot police have launched a full-scale investigation into the death of a 30-year-old Nigerian woman, whose body was discovered in an apartment in the Germasogeia area of Limassol on Sunday morning.
Police said they are investigating a case of premeditated murder and have not ruled out the possibility of foul play, as early findings point to suspicious circumstances.
According to report, the woman, identified as Victory Osarumen Thompson, a 30-year-old woman from Nigeria, was found with facial injuries and sustained injuries to various parts of her body suggesting that her death may have resulted from a criminal act.
Limassol Police spokesman and Assistant Police Director Lefteris Kyriakou said that the force was alerted by the ambulance service around 10:30 a.m., after paramedics responded to a call and found the woman inside the flat with no signs of life.
“The circumstances under which the woman was found required immediate investigation,” Kyriakou said. “Officers from the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (CID), along with senior police officials, including the Limassol Police Director and the Assistant Chief for Crime Prevention, attended the scene. All possibilities remain open at this stage.”
State pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou are conducting an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Preliminary information indicates that the woman had been living in the apartment for the past few days, sharing the flat with three other women, two of them 24-years old and the third, 35-years old, also Nigerian nationals. Police have confirmed that these individuals are being questioned as part of the investigation.
Neighbours reportedly told investigators that they heard shouting coming from the apartment early on Sunday morning. According to additional information, the four women had gone out together to a local bar and returned to the flat at around 5 a.m.
Authorities are also examining the women’s residency status in Cyprus, investigating whether they were in the country as tourists.
Kyriakou emphasised that the investigation remains at an early stage. “As you understand, it is still too soon to draw conclusions,” he said. “We are awaiting the completion of the forensic examinations and the autopsy before making any further statements.”
Police continue to collect evidence and testimonies from witnesses as the investigation into the woman’s death proceeds.
