President Trump imposes 10% tariffs on Canada over advertising dispute
US President Donald Trump, who this week decided to sever trade relations with Canada in retaliation for an advertising campaign against US tariffs, announced tonight that he is imposing additional tariffs of 10% on Ottawa.
“Their advertisement should have been pulled immediately, but they allowed it to air last night (i.e., Friday) during the World Series, knowing that it was fraudulent,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform.
The US President was referring to an advertising campaign that featured Ronald Reagan speaking out against tariffs, which was broadcast during the first game of the baseball championship final.
“Due to their (i.e., the Canadians’) serious distortion of the facts and their hostile action, I am increasing the tariffs on Canada by 10% compared to what they are paying now,” Trump added.
