One die in collision between multiple vehicles in north Cyprus

A deadly traffic accident occurred on the İskele–Ercan main road near the Gönendere Junction on Saturday morning, resulting in the death of a 41-year-old driver and injuries to two others, according to the Police Press Office.

The crash took place at approximately 9:00 am when a vehicle driven by Arslan Ayamuradov (37), traveling from Geçitkale toward Serdarlı, reportedly approached the junction at unsafe speed and failed to drive attentively. In an attempt to avoid striking a vehicle ahead that was slowing to turn right into Gönendere village, Ayamuradov swerved uncontrollably into the opposing lane.

His vehicle then collided with the right side of an oncoming car driven by Muhammet Urhan (30) before continuing forward and crashing into the front of a vehicle behind it, operated by Raşit Tekin (41).

Emergency responders pronounced Tekin dead at the scene due to the severe impact. Two passengers in Tekin’s vehicle, identified as Ömet Tunç and Servet Avcı, were injured and transported to Gazimağusa State Hospital, where they remain under medical treatment.

Police confirmed that driver Arslan Ayamuradov was arrested following the incident, and an active investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

Authorities continue to urge drivers to exercise caution, particularly at high-risk junctions along major routes.
