Israeli couple arrested in Limassol over casino wallet theft

Police in Cyprus (south) arrested an Israeli couple in connection with a case of wallet theft that occurred at the city’s casino. The two suspects, a man and a woman, were brought before the Limassol District Court on Saturday morning.

The Police requested their detention for a period of two days in order to complete the examinations, a request to which their lawyer did not object. The Court accepted the request and ordered the remand of the two suspects.

According to information from philenews, the incident unfolded in the early hours of this morning when a Greek Cypriot visited the casino to try his luck at gambling. At some point, he reportedly temporarily left his seat, forgetting his wallet on the chair, which contained a sum of approximately €2,000 and personal documents.

When he realised the absence of his wallet, he immediately informed the casino management and the Police. Through the examination of the closed-circuit surveillance system, the investigators located a couple of visitors approaching the spot and taking the wallet.

Actions followed for their location and arrest. During questioning, they denied any involvement in the case, claiming they had not committed a theft.

According to reports, the couple is staying at the casino’s hotel complex, while Police investigations are continuing.
