Hamas seeks clarifications and changes to Gaza peace plan
Hamas has requested clarifications on key aspects of Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, according to the Saudi Arabian channel Al-Hadath, which cited a source within the organisation.
The same source stressed that Hamas believes it has the right to propose changes to the US plan, just as Israel did.
A central point of disagreement concerns the provision for disarmament. Hamas is asking for a distinction between defensive and offensive weapons, emphasising that “defensive weapons are a right of Hamas.”
Furthermore, the organisation rejects the idea of international governance in the Gaza Strip, insisting that governance must remain in Palestinian hands, even if it involves non-political figures.
Hamas also demands a clear timeline for the withdrawal of Israeli forces, accompanied by guarantees for a definitive end to the war. The US plan, however, provides for a gradual, “performance-based” withdrawal, depending on adherence to the terms.
It is recalled that, according to a US analyst and former official, Benjamin Netanyahu secured “last-minute changes” to the plan, a fact that prompted Qatar’s Al Thani to speak of the need for further clarifications.
