Cyprus woman loses $52,485 in online cryptocurrency fraud
Police in Cyprus (south) is investigating a case of online fraud involving a 31-year-old woman, following a complaint filed with the Limassol CID.
According to the complaint, an unknown man with whom the woman was communicating online convinced her to invest in an online cryptocurrency company, urging her to proceed with money transfers.
Between September 25th and October 4th, the 31-year-old reportedly carried out six transactions, transferring a total of 52,485 US dollars in cryptocurrency via an electronic link that had been sent to her. When she tried to visit the company’s website, she found that the platform no longer existed.
The Limassol CID continues its investigations to locate the perpetrator and identify the platform.
