Two children killed in Melbourne knife attack

Two children, ages 12 and 15, were found dead in Melbourne after a knife attack by what police believe are members of a youth gang.

The two victims were found on Saturday night in two different locations a short distance from each other in the western suburbs of the Australian metropolis, and the police believe the two crimes are related.

Homicide detectives from Victoria Police are on the scene at two addresses about 200 meters apart in the suburb of Cobblebank, 33 kilometers from the city center.

The younger victim, a 12-year-old boy, was fatally stabbed multiple times and found at a residence on Marble Street. He had multiple severe stab or machete wounds. Police and paramedics who arrived made a desperate effort to keep him alive, but the victim died on the spot, police confirmed.

A few minutes later, the second victim, a 15-year-old boy, was found also with very serious injuries near Cobble Street in the same suburb, about 200 meters away. The 15-year-old received medical treatment at the scene but eventually died.

Police are continuing their investigation, and more detailed announcements are expected on Sunday afternoon.
