Turkish defense ministry warns south Cyprus against procuring air defense system from Israel
The Turkish Ministry of National Defense (MSB) has warned that the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus’s (GCASC) reported attempts to procure an air defense system from Israel could disrupt the delicate balance on the island.
The ministry reaffirmed that all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard the security and stability of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Responding to questions following the ministry’s weekly press briefing, MSB officials commented on reports of GCASC acquiring air defense systems from Israel.
“We are closely following media reports regarding GCASC’s procurement of an air defense system from Israel. We wish to reiterate that the Greek Cypriot side’s ongoing armament efforts and activities that undermine peace and stability on the island may lead to dangerous consequences. Every initiative aimed at disturbing the balance on the island is being carefully monitored, and all necessary measures are taken to ensure the security and peace of the TRNC,” the statement read.
The ministry also underlined Turkey’s continued commitment to the Turkish Cypriot community: “As in the past, Turkey stands by and supports the TRNC today. The Turkish Cypriot people remain under the guarantee of Turkey.”
