Student sent to prison in north Cyprus for disorderly behavior
A man accused of disorderly behavior and disturbing the peace in Lefkoşa, north Cyprus has been ordered to serve up to 15 days in prison.
Police in a court testimony on Wednesday Sept. 24 said on the morning of 23 September 2025, at around 8:30 a.m., police patrol officers found the defendant identified as HB rolling on the ground and shouting on Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulevard, causing a public disturbance.
Investigations revealed that HB had previously been arrested for similar offenses. Police noted that on 29 August 2025 he committed the same offense in Lefkoşa and was subsequently treated at Barış Psychiatric Hospital on 30 August.
Authorities stated that while HB is residing in the country as a student, he has repeatedly engaged in similar behavior. The police therefore requested that he remain in custody pending trial.
After reviewing the testimony, the judge ordered the defendant to be held in prison for a period not exceeding 15 days and to undergo medical evaluation at the psychiatric hospital.
