Student causes over 100,000 TL worth of damage to property belonging to an individual he had feud with in north Cyprus

A foreign student has been arrested in Lefkoşa, north Cyprus after allegedly causing extensive damage to the home and vehicle of Abdulraheem Damilare Shehu, with whom he is said to have an ongoing dispute.

According to police testimony presented by the police in court, the incident occurred in the early hours of 9 September 2025 in the Kermiya area when the suspect identified as TK, a Nigerian national reportedly went to Shehu’s residence and, after the victim refused to open the door, broke the door lock, causing 9,000 TL worth of damage.

The suspect then allegedly vandalized Shehu’s Mercedes vehicle parked in the same complex. Police said he scratched both sides of the car with a sharp object, wrote on it with blue marker, and stole the front and rear license plates. The damage to the vehicle was estimated at 154,000 TL, bringing the total losses to 163,000 TL.

Police further revealed that TK had previously faced charges related to the same complainant. On 20 August 2025, he was brought before the Lefkoşa District Court on allegations of violating privacy and breaching electronic communications laws, for which he was released on bail.

Following his latest arrest, investigators requested that the suspect be held in custody while inquiries continue.

After reviewing the evidence, the judge ordered the suspect to remain in detention for one day.
