Over 3,200 people deported from north Cyprus in first nine months of 2025

Northern Cyprus Interior Minister Dursun Oğuz has announced that 3,203 individuals have been deported in the first nine months of 2025 due to irregular migration and illegal residence.

Speaking on the issue of migration and deportation with Kibris Postasi on Wednesday, Minister Oğuz compared the figures with the previous year, noting: “In 2024, there were 5,624 deportations. This year so far, the number stands at 3,203, mostly related to irregular residence.”

The minister also highlighted new measures to strengthen migration management. He explained that while a deportation holding center had previously been in use, authorities have now identified a new public facility to be converted into a dedicated deportation center through joint efforts with the Directorate General. “Within the week, we will establish a proper deportation facility. Our migration monitoring will continue more rigorously,” Oğuz stated.

He added that police operations to ensure public order are ongoing, emphasizing the government’s determination to combat irregular migration. “Our goal is to prevent unregistered residence. In some cases, individuals even approach the authorities themselves and request deportation. The police handle these situations and carry out the necessary procedures,” he said.
