One die in fatal collision on Girne–Güzelyurt highway, two others injured

Girne – September 4, 2025 - A tragic road accident on the Girne–Güzelyurt main highway claimed the life of a 34-year-old man and left two others injured in the early hours of Thursday.

According to police, the accident occurred at around 00:45 am on Thursday Sept. 4 between the 23rd and 24th kilometers of the Girne–Güzelyurt highway.  

Hasan Kapcı (34), driving a ZUN 310-registered saloon car towards Girne, reportedly lost control and veered onto the opposite lane, colliding head-on with a vehicle driven by İzzet Köle (50).

The force of the impact caused Kapcı’s car to be thrown off the northern side of the road, while Köle’s vehicle was propelled southward, striking pine trees before coming to a stop off the roadside.

Kapcı died instantly at the scene. His passenger, Ramazan Ender Öztürk (34), sustained injuries and was rushed to Girne Dr. Akçiçek Hospital, where he remains under observation. Driver İzzet Köle was transferred to Near East University Hospital for further treatment.

Police confirmed that an investigation into the accident is ongoing.
