Night inspections in Girne: 40 people checked, illegal residents sent to deportation center

A late-night inspection carried out in Girne, north Cyprus by the District Governor’s Office, the police, and the Migration Management Center resulted in the identity and residency status of 40 individuals being checked.

While some were found to be residing legally in the country, others without valid documents were taken into custody and transferred to the Deportation Center under police supervision.

Girne District Governor Revin Gürler personally joined the operation, overseeing the checks on-site. Gürler emphasized that inspections will intensify in the coming period, stressing that there will be zero tolerance for illegal residence.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, the operations form part of ongoing efforts to ensure national security, protect public order, and combat unregistered residence. The Mobile Migration Inspection Unit, operating under the Migration Management Center, worked in coordination with the Governor’s Office and the police to carry out the nighttime operation.

During the inspections, residence permits and official documents of the individuals were examined. While some were confirmed to have legal status, irregular migrants were identified and processed in accordance with regulations before being transferred to the Deportation Center.

The Ministry underlined that these inspections are crucial not only for national security but also for maintaining public peace and social stability. It warned that irregular residence poses serious social and economic challenges and reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the issue without compromise.

Authorities added that the inspections will not be limited to Girne, but will continue regularly across other regions as well, with the aim of ensuring that all foreign nationals reside in the country within the legal framework.

Governor Gürler reiterated the government’s firm stance, stating: “Those who threaten public order by living in the country illegally will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”
