Man found living illegally in North Cyprus for over 6 years arrested

Authorities in north Cyprus have arrested a man who was found to be living in the country illegally for 2,253 days — more than six years — without proper residency permits.

According to police testimony, the suspect, RJ, a resident of Değirmenlik, was stopped by a Demirhan Police Station patrol during a routine check on September 11, 2025, around 9:30 p.m. on Başpınar Yolu Street.

A subsequent immigration review revealed that RJ had been residing in the country without legal permission since July 23, 2019. He was immediately taken into custody and an investigation was launched.

Police stated that deportation proceedings against the suspect have already begun. During the court hearing, the police requested an eight-day remand to complete the investigation.

The presiding judge granted the request, ordering the suspect to remain in police custody for eight days.

The case remains under investigation.
