Man arrested for assaulting wife in north Cyprus released on bail
A man identified as A.İ. has been released on bail after being accused of assaulting his wife during a domestic dispute at their home in Lefkoşa.
According to details presented in court by the police, the incident occurred at around 3:00 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 11 in the couple’s residence. During a verbal argument in the child’s bedroom, A.İ. allegedly grabbed his wife by the arm and pushed her, causing her to fall onto an electric vacuum cleaner.
The complainant was taken to the Lefkoşa State Hospital’s Emergency Department, where doctors noted an old bruise approximately 2 cm in size but found no signs of fresh assault or force. The suspect was arrested later the same day.
Police informed the court that the complainant had four prior records from 2021 and 2023, though no formal complaints were filed in those cases. A.İ. has denied the assault allegation, and police confirmed that the investigation has been completed.
After reviewing the testimony, the judge ordered the defendant’s release under strict bail conditions: a 15,000 TL cash deposit, two guarantors signing 500,000 TL surety bonds each, a weekly police reporting requirement, and a ban on leaving the country.
