Driver fined for endangering lives on Girne-Alsancak main road

Police in north Cyprus have taken legal action against a driver whose dangerous behavior on the Girne-Alsancak main road was captured on video and widely shared on social media.

The footage showed passengers being transported in the rear of a double-cabin vehicle, a practice deemed highly unsafe and a violation of traffic laws. Following the viral circulation of the video, the Girne Police Department’s traffic unit launched an investigation to identify the driver.

According to a statement from the Police Press Office, the driver was located and charged with carrying passengers outside of the vehicle’s fixed seats. Officials confirmed that a formal report was filed and a fine imposed for actions that endangered both human life and road safety.

Authorities reiterated that similar violations will continue to be monitored closely, stressing that such reckless behavior poses serious risks to all road users.
