Driver arrested after hitting dog on university campus in north Cyprus

An incident in Haspolat early yesterday morning led to the arrest of a 25-year-old driver identified as D.S. 

According to a statement from the Police Press Office, D.S. drove his vehicle dangerously within a university campus, directing it toward a pack of stray dogs. During the incident, one of the dogs was struck and dragged under the vehicle.

The incident occurred at around 03:30 on September 15, 2025. Police reported that D.S. was taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation. 

The injured dog fled the scene, and its condition has not yet been determined. Authorities confirmed that the investigation is still underway.

Four arrested after knife threat in İskele following dispute

On the same day in İskele, a quarrel over throwing date seeds escalated into a physical fight on the Long Beach Mackenzie walking path at around 22:00.

According to police, individuals who were throwing date seeds at each other were warned by security guard M.A.A. (28), leading to a heated argument. The confrontation soon turned into a fight involving S.B. (28) on one side, and E.Ö. and Y.Y.M. (18) on the other.

During the altercation, E.Ö. allegedly brandished an illegally carried knife, swinging it recklessly in an attempt to intimidate the others.

Tourism police intervened and arrested four individuals involved. Police confirmed that the investigation into the fight and the unlawful possession of a knife is ongoing.
