Woman and doctor arrested in north Cyprus for terminating pregnancy without spouse's consent
A woman identified as G.Ö. and a doctor, S.K., have been released on bail after being arrested for terminating a pregnancy without the consent of the woman’s spouse.
According to police testimony presented in court, G.Ö. discovered she was pregnant on 28 June 2025. She later approached Dr. S.K. and had the pregnancy terminated without informing or obtaining consent from her husband.
Both suspects were arrested following the incident. After being brought before the court, they were granted release under strict bail conditions.
The court ruled that G.Ö. and Dr. S.K. will remain free pending their trial, subject to the 70,000 TL bail each, as the legal proceedings continue.
The case has drawn public attention and sparked renewed debate around reproductive rights, medical ethics, and spousal consent in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Further legal review and public discourse are expected as the case progresses.
