Turkmenistan student arrested for burglary and theft in Lefkoşa
Lefkoşa, August 5, 2025 — A 20-year-old Turkmen national, has been arrested in Lefkoşa on charges of burglary, theft, and unlawful entry after allegedly stealing ₺54,500 in cash from a private residence.
The suspect identified as AR has reportedly confessed to the crime in a voluntary statement given to the police.
The suspect appeared before the Lefkoşa District Court on Monday. The court was told that the incident occurred on August 1, 2025, around 11:00 AM, when the suspect entered a residence located on Atatürk Street.
According to police testimony, AR gained entry by opening an unsecured aluminum kitchen door facing south. Once inside, he allegedly stole ₺54,500 in cash from a drawer in the bedroom and exited the property the same way.
Police received a report about the incident on August 4, leading to the suspect’s arrest later that day. The police said the suspect the suspect voluntarily gave a full confession during questioning.
The suspect who is in the country on a student visa, remains under investigation. Authorities have confirmed that the stolen money has not yet been recovered. The police requested a two-day detention period to continue their inquiries.
The judge ordered that the suspect remain in custody for 48 hours while the investigation proceeds.
The case remains under active investigation.
