Turkmen woman arrested in north Cyprus for overstaying her visa

A 25-year-old Turkmen woman, has been arrested in Lefkoşa north Cyprus after authorities discovered she had been residing in the country without legal status.

According to police testimony presented in court, officers from the Domestic Violence Unit visited a residence in Göçmenköy on 18 August 2025 following a complaint. 

During an immigration check at the address, it was revealed that the individual identified as SU had been living in the country for 640 days without permission since 17 November 2023.

The police stated that SU was arrested on the spot and an investigation was launched to determine whether she had been involved in any criminal activity during her period of illegal stay.

Authorities confirmed that deportation procedures will also be initiated against her. The police requested an additional two days of detention to complete the investigation.

The judge granted the request, ordering that SU remain in custody for two more days while inquiries continue.
