Student driver injured after crashing vehicle into gate, streetlight and shops in Lefkoşa

A 26-year-old driver, was injured in a traffic accident in Lefkoşa after losing control of his vehicle and colliding with multiple objects, including a gate, a streetlight and shop shutters.

According to information released by the Police Press Office, the accident occurred at around 8:00 p.m. on August 17, 2025, on Necmettin Erbakan Street.

Police reported that the driver of the vehicle identified as BEN, a Nigerian national, driving a car attempted to overtake another vehicle—whose license plate remains unidentified—in a careless manner near Dima Supermarket. During the maneuver, he lost control of the car.

The vehicle veered off the road, first striking a garbage bin and an iron gate belonging to house number 57, before crashing into a streetlight. The impact carried the car further into the shutters of two vacant shops, where it eventually came to a stop.

The driver sustained injuries and was transported to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkoşa. He remains under medical observation, and his condition is being monitored.

Police confirmed that the investigation into the accident is ongoing.
