North Cyprus transport minister warns public against fake traffic fine messages

North Cyprus transport minister Erhan Arıklı has issued a public warning about fraudulent text messages claiming recipients owe overdue traffic fines.

In a statement shared via his social media account, Minister Arıklı said the scam messages contain a link directing users to a fake payment page. One such message reportedly reads: “You have an overdue traffic fine. Please process it by 14:00 via https://lnk.ink/kJQT8, otherwise you will face additional penalties.”

Arıklı confirmed that he has instructed the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTHK) to immediately track down the perpetrators and cooperate with the police in their investigation.

“I have given BTHK the order to pursue these fraudsters and work with law enforcement. Our citizens must absolutely avoid clicking on such links,” the Minister stressed.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious messages to the relevant authorities.
