Intoxicated man assaults police officers in Girne; Two arrested in Lapta for cannabis cultivation
Girne & Lapta, Cyprus (August 2, 2025) — A 24-year-old man, was arrested in Girne after allegedly disturbing the peace while heavily intoxicated and assaulting police officers who attempted to intervene.
The incident occurred around 9:00 PM on Hasene Ilgaz Street, where traffic patrol units from the Girne Police Directorate encountered the individual identified as A.E.B., shouting loudly and causing a disturbance.
According to police reports, A.E.B., found to be under the influence of 247 milligrams of alcohol, verbally abused the officers and physically assaulted them, hindering them from performing their duties. He was immediately arrested at the scene and taken into custody.
Meanwhile, in Lapta, two individuals were arrested after police discovered four cannabis plants and drug-related equipment during a narcotics operation.
At approximately 7:00 PM, teams from the Narcotics and Anti-Smuggling Directorate identified C.D. (21) and H.İ.K. (28) as being in possession of what is believed to be cannabis plants. The illegal substances were seized as evidence.
A subsequent search of the suspects’ residence uncovered a grinder containing cannabis residue, which was also taken as evidence. Both individuals were arrested and are currently in custody pending further investigation.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on both public disorder and drug-related offenses, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy for actions that compromise community safety and public order.
