Illegal residents detained in Girne market immigration raid

Girne – Immigration and police teams in North Cyprus conducted a joint inspection at the Girne open-air market today, detaining individuals found to be residing in the country without valid permits.

The operation, carried out by the Interior Ministry’s Migration Management Centre in coordination with police officers and personnel from the Girne District Governor’s Office, involved checks on the residency status of market-goers.

According to officials, several individuals without legal residency permits were identified and legal proceedings against them have been initiated.

Authorities said the inspection was part of the government’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal stay in the country.

A mobile inspection unit, operated by the Migration Management Centre, was deployed for the market operation — a tool the ministry says will be used regularly to conduct on-site checks.

Officials emphasized that such inspections will continue on a regular basis and that no tolerance will be shown towards illegal residency in the TRNC.
