Attempted robbery and assault in north Cyprus: Suspect arrested

A man assaulted an employee with a stone over an alleged debt in Alsancak, then forcibly took the victim’s mobile phone and attempted to transfer money to his own account through internet banking. 

The suspect was arrested following the incident, while the injured man was hospitalized.

According to a statement from the Police Press Office, the incident occurred at around 4:30 p.m. yesterday. B.G. (28), who works at the business, allegedly attacked M.A. with a stone, before taking his mobile phone and forcing him to log into his internet banking account in an attempt to transfer funds.

The victim, M.A., was initially treated at Girne Dr. Akçiçek Hospital and later transferred to Lefkoşa Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital, where he remains under observation.

Police quickly identified and arrested the suspect, B.G. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
