Amnesty for traffic penalty points on the way: North Cyprus transport minister
Lefkosia – North Cyprus Transport Minister Erhan Arıklı has announced plans to submit a proposal to the Council of Ministers for an amnesty on accumulated traffic penalty points, following prolonged delays in delivering penalty notices over the past two years.
Minister Arıklı explained that notification delays had caused many drivers to suddenly reach the penalty point limit, leading to temporary license suspensions. “We are taking steps to prevent these injustices by initiating a process for the cancellation of accumulated penalty points,” he said.
The minister added that the government has also requested a legal opinion from the Attorney General’s Office on whether at least part of the overdue monetary fines could be waived.
AI Traffic Camera Rollout Postponed
Arıklı also confirmed that the launch of artificial intelligence–equipped traffic cameras has been postponed due to a technical fault in the equipment used to produce warning signs.
The system, originally set to go live tomorrow, will now be activated only after the required warning signs are installed along relevant roads. Until then, existing traffic cameras will continue operating in their current capacity.
“Once the warning signs are in place, the cameras will begin performing all their intended functions,” the minister assured.
