34-year-old woman stabbed to death by her partner in Cyprus, son injured

A 34-year-old Greek woman from Greece, identified as Papakitsa Eirina, was found dead inside her home in Chloraka, Paphos, Cyprus on Sunday evening, in what police are investigating as a case of premeditated murder and suspected femicide.

Authorities were alerted at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday August 17 to reports of an injured woman and child. Officers arriving at the scene discovered the lifeless body of the woman, along with her 14-year-old son and a 53-year-old man, both of whom were injured.

The teenager sustained a stab wound to the neck and an injury to his ear, allegedly inflicted as he attempted to protect his mother. He was rushed to Paphos General Hospital, where his condition is described as stable.

The 53-year-old suspect, who reportedly lived with the victim but was not her partner, was also taken to hospital with multiple blunt force injuries before being transferred to Nicosia General Hospital for further treatment. A judicial arrest warrant has been issued against him, and his remand hearing is scheduled to proceed in absentia before Paphos District Court. He is currently under guard and represented by his lawyer.

Assistant police director Michalis Nikolaou confirmed that the suspect has no prior criminal record, though investigations are ongoing to clarify the circumstances of the killing. A coroner has already attended the scene, and a post-mortem examination is expected to provide further details.

Local media have characterized the incident as a suspected femicide—defined as the killing of a woman on account of her gender—often linked to domestic abuse or violence within close social or family circles.

Paphos CID continues to investigate.
