Vehicle ploughs into nightclub queue in Los Angeles injuring 30 people
Thirty people were injured when a vehicle struck a crowd waiting outside a Los Angeles nightclub in the early hours of Saturday morning, with three victims in critical condition.
The collision occurred on Santa Monica Boulevard, according to the city’s fire department, with casualties rapidly evacuated to nearby hospitals and trauma centres.
Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Captain Adam VanGerpen said the victims – predominantly women – had been queuing to enter the nightclub when a Nissan Versa struck them before colliding with a taco truck and valet station.
Emergency responders discovered one victim had sustained a gunshot wound, VanGerpen confirmed.
Photographs and social media footage from the scene revealed debris scattered across the roadway, including discarded shoes, whilst authorities cordoned off the area and emergency services responded.
VanGerpen confirmed the incident remains under police investigation, describing it as “a large investigation with the LAPD”.
Nightclub patrons immediately emerged to assist victims before emergency crews arrived on scene, he said.
The fire department spokesman explained the victims had been “standing in line going into a nightclub” and “getting some food” from a taco cart whilst waiting to enter. The vehicle impact destroyed the valet podium and taco truck before striking multiple people.
Los Angeles police have confirmed their investigation continues.
