Two individuals set to be deported after they were found residing illegally in North Cyprus

Lefkoşa, North Cyprus – Two individuals, identified as T.A.A. and O.C.A., have been detained after being found residing illegally in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

The pair who are students in north Cyprus were brought before the Lefkoşa District Court on Tuesday July 29 following their arrest during a police raid.

The police stated that the suspects were discovered on July 28, 2025, around 4:00 p.m., during a search of a residence in Lefkoşa carried out under a court warrant in connection with an unrelated drug possession investigation.

Immigration checks revealed that T.A.A. had overstayed since September 30, 2023—totaling 607 days—while O.C.A. had been living in the country illegally since September 30, 2022, a total of 972 days.

The individuals were arrested on the spot and an investigation was launched. Police stated that further inquiries would be conducted with the Immigration Department and that deportation proceedings would be initiated against both suspects.

The judge ordered that the suspects remain in custody for two days to allow the investigation to proceed.
