Student found living illegally in north Cyprus for over two years set to be deported

A foreign national found to have been residing illegally in north Cyprus for 802 days, has been ordered to remain in police custody for eight more days as authorities proceed with her deportation process.

The suspect identified only as ET was apprehended on July 4, 2025, during a routine patrol by police officers in Lefkoşa. During an immigration status check, it was discovered that she had been living in the country without legal permission since November 29, 2023.

Presenting the case in court, the police stated that ET was arrested and an investigation was immediately launched. The suspect was initially brought before the court and a three-day detention order was granted.

Police further informed the court that while deportation procedures had been initiated, they had not yet been concluded. Citing the ongoing investigation, police requested an extension of her detention.

The judge reviewed the testimony and granted the request, ordering that ET remain in custody for an additional eight days.
