Special Task Force intervene in two drug-related incidents in Lefkosia and Aydınköy — six arrested

Lefkosia, July 8, 2025 — Special Task Force (CÖŞ) teams intervened in two separate drug-related incidents during routine inspections in Nicosia and Aydınköy, resulting in the arrest of six individuals and the seizure of various narcotic substances.

According to a statement issued by the Police Press Office, the operations were carried out by units affiliated with the Nicosia and Güzelyurt Police Directorates. Both incidents are currently under investigation.

Pursuit and Crash in Nicosia

At approximately 9:30 PM on the North Peripheral Road in Nicosia, CÖŞ officers on patrol noticed a suspiciously parked vehicle along a bicycle path. When they attempted to carry out a check, the driver fled the scene, heading toward Near East Boulevard.

Following a short pursuit, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a curb, bringing the chase to an end. The driver, identified as M.B. (27), and a passenger, M.K. (54), were both arrested at the scene.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered approximately 2 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine, which was seized as evidence. Police confirmed that the investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Marijuana Seized in Aydınköy

Earlier the same day, at around 5:00 PM, CÖŞ teams from the Güzelyurt Police Directorate conducted a patrol in Aydınköy, where they encountered four young individuals sitting on a bench in a garden area and found their behavior suspicious.

A search of the area revealed approximately 0.5 grams of cannabis (marijuana) and a cigarette butt believed to contain drug residue. The individuals, identified as E.G. (17), B.B. (19), B.G. (17), and M.G. (24), were taken into custody and an investigation was initiated.

The police emphasized that investigations into both incidents are continuing.
