Seven rescued, hospitalized after apartment fire in Gönyeli

Gönyeli, Cyprus – July 20, 2025 — A fire that broke out in an apartment building in Gönyeli on Sunday evening prompted a swift response from emergency services, resulting in the rescue of seven individuals who were later hospitalized.

According to information provided by the Police Press Office, the incident occurred at approximately 9:55 PM on Şehit Ali Yusuf Hacı Street, in the Ramazan-9 Apartment complex. The fire was reportedly triggered by an explosion, the cause of which remains under investigation.

Firefighters arrived quickly at the scene and were able to bring the blaze under control in a short period of time. During the operation, seven people who had been trapped inside the building were successfully rescued.

Emergency medical teams at the scene transported the rescued individuals to nearby hospitals for further treatment. Details regarding their condition have not yet been released.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion and subsequent fire.
