NASA satellite tracks Mediterranean wildfires in real-time
From Greece to Spain and from the coasts of southern France to Cyprus, NASA’s satellite system is detecting and recording active fire fronts across the entire Mediterranean basin in real-time.
On each satellite image, red dots mark locations where fires are raging, whether small outbreaks or large, rapidly spreading fire fronts.
The images provided below correspond to fires currently active, those over the last 24 hours, and those over the past seven days, respectively. The latter is particularly significant as the past week was one of the summer’s hottest, with the Balkans and Italy experiencing a prolonged heatwave. The vast majority of these red dots indicate forest fires.

Some dots also represent human activities such as factories or fires lit by farmers in their fields, as well as the war fronts in Ukraine.
