Man caught selling stolen bicycles in Gönyeli
A man identified as Del R.A.H.Y has been remanded in custody for seven days after being caught red-handed attempting to sell stolen bicycles belonging to his neighbors in Gönyeli.
The suspect appeared before the court on Friday July 11 on charges of theft and fraud.
According to police testimony, the incident occurred on July 9, 2025, at approximately 10:30 PM. The suspect allegedly stole a red Ümit-brand bicycle valued at 3,000 TL and a blue Cover-brand bicycle worth 5,000 TL from the stairwell of an apartment building on Tandoğan Street.
The stolen bicycles were later listed for sale by the suspect via social media platforms. One of the bikes was sold in İskele to an unsuspecting buyer, with the suspect falsely claiming ownership in order to fraudulently obtain money.
In a bizarre twist, Del R.A.H.Y also attempted to sell a Cabo-brand bicycle worth 4,000 TL—which he had stolen from the same building—to its original owner, A.A., from whom he had previously stolen. He was apprehended in the act during this second attempt.
Following his arrest, Del R.A.H.Y was initially detained for one day, during which a search of his residence was conducted. During the search, police found approximately one gram of a substance believed to be cannabis, which was seized as evidence.
Police stated that the investigation is ongoing, with additional witness statements to be collected. Authorities are also examining whether Del R.A.H.Y may be linked to similar theft cases reported in the area. The seized substance will be sent for laboratory analysis, and police have requested an additional seven days of detention to complete their inquiries.
The judge granted the request, ordering that the suspect remain in custody for seven more days.
