Man assault mother over money dispute in Gönyeli

Gönyeli, Cyprus — A man identified as B.E.S. has been arrested and charged with assault and making threats of violence against his mother after she allegedly refused to give him money.

According to police testimony presented in court, the incident occurred on July 16, 2025 at a residence on Merkez Street in Gönyeli, where the suspect resides with his mother. Authorities reported that B.E.S. physically assaulted his mother and threatened her, saying, “If you don’t give me money, I’ll rip your head off.”

The complaint was officially filed on July 22, the same day the suspect was taken into custody. 

Police confirmed that the investigation into the matter has been completed and requested that the suspect be released on bail pending trial.

The judge ordered that B.E.S. is to be banned from leaving the country, must report to a police station once a week, post a cash bail of 15,000 TL, and provide two guarantors each signing a bond of 250,000 TL.
