Man arrested in Girne over threats and illegal stay allegedly linked to Turkish criminal network

The suspect, SK, who was arrested in Girne on charges of illegal residency, threats of violence, and violations of the Electronic Communications Law, has been remanded in custody for three days.

The suspect is also alleged to have ties to the notorious "Casperler" criminal gang in Turkey.

During a court appearance on Sunday July 13, police told the court that the suspect, SK, was apprehended on July 12. According to the investigation, SK used a messaging application on his mobile phone to send threatening messages to an individual who allegedly spoke negatively about the Casperler gang.

The messages reportedly included threats such as: “We will break your head,” “You’ll get what’s coming to you,” and “You’ll pay the price for what you said.”

The police further revealed that the suspect has been living in the country illegally since June 3, and that an immigration status review is ongoing. The police requested three days of detention to continue the investigation and complete the necessary procedures.

After reviewing the police testimony, the judge ordered that the suspect remain in custody for three more days.
