Man arrested at Ercan airport for spending money on a lost bank card in Girne
Girne, Cyprus — A 26-year-old man identified by the initials M.S. was arrested at Ercan Airport while attempting to leave the country after allegedly using a lost bank card to make unauthorized purchases and fraudulently obtain credit.
According to the police press bulletin, the incident dates back to November 22–23, 2023, when an unidentified individual or individuals found and stole a bank card dropped by its rightful owner on the roadside in Girne. Authorities stated that a total of 4,066.50 TL was spent using the card over several transactions, during which fraudulent credit was also obtained.
Following an ongoing investigation, police identified M.S. as a suspect in the case. He was apprehended yesterday at Ercan Airport just before boarding a flight.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence related to the fraudulent activity.
